Bettr, an application that is all about making Flickr look better, hit 2.0 the other week. But not satisfied with the changes that came with it — the introduction of the menu, allowing the viewer to go back to the homepage, to the user’s photos on Flickr, or to select from their sets — we decided to keep going and make it even bettr.
At the current version of 2.2.3 you can now enjoy the ability to view videos as well as photographs!
If you have been using the Bettr bookmarklet (added in version 1.4) then that’s been updated too. So adjust your bookmarks accordingly to enjoy improved username functionality — you too can now view the flickr streams of people with usernames including punctuation, unicode, smileys and other goofy shit.
Bettr aims to make using Flickr to view photographs, videos, and everything else you can find on it much easier and much, much nicer to look at.
We hope you enjoy it.
Bettr is a better way of displaying photos from Flickr users’ photostreams. Bettr was produced using phpFlickr, jQuery, Masonry, and the Flickr API. Learn more about it here, or read an updated post here.
Bettr is displaying the photos of jumpaper in this image. Bettr is not affiliated with Flickr in any way.

I recently decided to digitally archive my folders of negatives. The problem is that I have neither a film scanner nor the money to buy said film scanner. I was going to have to come up with another way:

In 2009 I took a fair few photos, something like 3,000 of them according to my Lightroom library (and that doesn’t include the 4 or 5 roles of film I have sitting on my turntable yet to be developed). Most of those photos (around 2,500 I’d say) were shit, and they will never see the light of day. A few of them — despite various problems — were still rather interesting. It turns out that when the majority of your shots are taken with a manual focus lens from the late ’70’s you’re going to get a lot of out of focus, over/under-exposed, or just completely missed shots
So I present to you my dud photos of 2009, a little white-balance here and some levels there, but they’re pretty much as they came straight out of the camera:

Below we have a small example of some of the things that we got up to in London. Note the various photos of food, because after 11 hours in the bus all you want to do is sleep and eat and the first wasn’t going to be available to us until after another 13 hour bus ride home 12 hours later.
